'Big Little Steps' author Mathilde Loujayne was invited by Dubai Eye FM on ‘Talking of Books’ to discuss two books that have inspired her and which best capture the spirit of Ramadan for her - she chose to read excerpts from ‘Letters to a Young Muslim’ by Omar Saif Ghobash and ‘The Alchemist’ by Paulo Coelho.
You can listen to the full Dubai Eye 103.8 interview here - feel free to share your thoughts on these books and others that have inspired you!
Mathilde Loujayne explains: "When asked how I would describe Ramadan in only THREE words, what came to mind on the spot was:
1- Compassion:we feel for the poor and needy by fasting, we share our meals with one another and pay the charity 'zakat al-fitr' at the end of the month
2- Unity (in our Community): all Muslims around the world fast together, meet at the mosque at night to pray together and celebrate Eid as a community
3- Elevation of Self: during this month we also strive as Muslims to better ourselves in every way possible: more charitable acts, improving our character, and our prayer.. and of course become healthier as a result of a healthy fast! The list is endless!"
